Quite a few recent Australian releases somehow slipped through my net but compel viewing:
- The madcap trailer of Micmacs, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet of Amelie fame, is a rare preview that invites without declaring the plot.
- I’ve ony read the second of Stieg Larsson’s trilogy but must see the first one in filmic interpretation, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
- Philippe Lioret’s Welcome hits these shores with plenty of accolades and is most relevant given our immigration debates.
- David Denby’s New Yorker review of Greenberg, directed by Noah Baumbach and starring Ben Stiller, makes it mandatory.
- I’ve always assumed that The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers, released in America last year by Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith, would never make it to this country. How amazing to see it advertised at the Nova, surely Melbourne’s best cinema.
