One Booker Prize winner I won’t read

I’ve delayed posting on the Booker Prize victory of Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel because I’m a trifle ashamed that I don’t plan to read it. A rabid fan of the Booker, I alwaysread the winning novel and in some years the entire shortlist. So why not this one? Simply because its subject matter – the rise of Cromwell – holds no interest for me at all. In fact, if I could be bothered, I would probably agree with those pre-announcement grizzlers who pointed out the lack of contemporaneity of this year’s Booker shortlist.
