Can a band be post-modern after two decades?

How come I keep finding about new releases of favourite bands in the New Yorker gig listings? Tortoise, which New Yorker in their June 1 issue describes as ‘post-rock pioneers . . . who have nearly two decades of experience under their belt,’ apparently has a new album out after five years (it felt longer). Beacons of Ancestorship comes out in two weeks.
