Soon we will know our own genes – genetics follow-up topic #3

The 39th of 50 Genetic Ideas You Really Need to Know, the essential primer by Mark Henderson, is titled ‘Genetic Testing’ and it deals with the burgeoning field of human genetic testing. From compulsory PKU testing in the United Kingdom, we now see companies offering commercial products. I’m fascinated by the option of getting my genome sequenced (or more likely, at any decent cost, sampled).
My fascination (see my earlier post) is partly personal, a ‘need to know,’ but also reflects an interest in the myriad ethical and societal issues raised by this emerging phenomenon. Let me see if I can follow and make sense of personal genetic testing.
