Mark Vernon (whose book Wellbeing I’m currently enjoying) suggests that the new Star Trek movie, jsut called Star Trek, has Spock turning into the perfect Stoic. I’m no Stoic, indeed don’t really understand it as well as I should, so I’ve been following the advice in Damon Young’s book Distraction (read about this journey), to read a bit of Seneca and his bio by Paul Veyne. I’m a sci-fi fan but never liked Star Trek – should I now watch it? Let me scout around the reviews first . . .

G’day Andres,
When I hear the words ‘Star Trek’ I reach for my…Star Trek cufflinks…
I’ve offered a very short review here: http://damon-young.blogspot.com/2009/05/spirit-of-star-trek.html
But I am, of course, horridly biased.
Cheers,
Damon
Damon,
I’m now most intrigued, will wait for the DVD to hit our neighbourhood rental shop . . .
