I went to a Black Sabbath gig 35 years ago. And I adored Deep Purple. But over the years my liking for the genre has dimmed to the point of near dislike. So when Anthony Lane in the April 20 The New Yorker praised a documentary, Anvil! The Story of Anvil, about a failed heavy metal band, I almost skipped the review. But I’m fascinated by the life battles of artists, and heavy metal rockers are artists too, you know. So I’ll watch out for Anvil, if not at the movies (it might not get an Australian release) then at the video rental.
