Last Wednesday’s Washington Post, as part of what must be an occasional column called ‘The Writing Life,’ contained a short essay by Amy Bloom called ‘Lies, Memories and Other Research.’ I was quite taken by her paean to the pleasures of research. Then I discovered that Away, her latest novel which came out a couple of years ago, is about a Russian emigre woman who goes back to Siberia. I can’t resist – it is now on my list.
